CHEYENNE—The State of Wyoming has adopted a State Flower, a State Bird and other symbols of the state and now Rep. Pete Illoway, R-Laramie County, and others want to have the legislature adopt the “Code of the West” as the State Code.
Illoway says he signed on to the idea, whose main sponsor is Sen. Jim Anderson, R-Converse County, after attending a film “The Code of the West, Alive and Well in Wyoming” which premiered in Laramie recently.
The idea is simple, Illoway says—just follow the code;
1 – Live each day with courage
2 – Take pride in your work
3 – Always finish what you start
4 – Do what has to be done
5 – Be tough, but fair
6 – When you make a promise, keep it
7 – Ride for the brand
8 – Talk less and say more
9 – Remember that some things aren’t for sale
10 – Know where to draw the line
As with all bills in the budget session, though, Anderson and Illoway’s Code of the West bill will have to survive a 2/3 introductory vote. Illoway points out there’s much more at http://www.cowboyethics.org/.
