CHEYENNE – With little discussion, the Wyoming House of Representatives passed legislation mandating that doctors inform women scheduling an abortion they have the right to view an ultrasound of the fetus.
The bill is softer than the same sponsor put forward earlier in the session that died on the House floor.
That one had a 24-hour waiting period and a requirement that the doctor discuss fetal pain as well as other controversial mandates that detractors said was based on false information.
The simplified bill also requires that women be informed of possible psychological risks and other complications that are possible from having the medical procedure.
Rep. Mary Throne, D-Cheyenne, said the bill is a government invasion of health care and a patient’s most private relationship with her doctor.
“Informed consent is a matter of law. It is something that doctors are required to do,” Throne said. “Women are not stupid. We do not lose our brains when we become pregnant.”
Brechtel said the psychological and physical consequences of abortion procedures are very damaging.
The House voted 34-25 with Casper Republican Rep. Lisa Shepperson excused.
The bill moves on to the Senate.

I agree with Mary Throne, et al. How can men, and women, living in the “Equality State” possibly think this is a worthwhile endeavor? I suppose one day we might have to get “permission” to have sex if we’re not planning to procreate! Who should I contact in the Senate to tell them to vote NAY on this bill!?
I’m at a loss to understand how this advances “Individual Liberty” and “Small Government. Evidently it means obtrusive government big enough to stick its nose into one’s personal business. Boy did I not understand.
Wow, let us not discuss the baby’s pain during a D & C (Dilation and curettage – this means taking a knife and cutting the baby away from the uterus wall and vacuuming it out with a hose.) If you think that a brain switch suddenly gets turned on at 30 weeks of gestation, I suggest you do more research. Visit some OB offices and watch some ultrasounds. Babies feel pain, joy, they get hiccups, they suck their fingers and many are quite active in the womb. My son played “poke the tummy” with me while he was growing. When babies in the womb are in need of surgery, ask a neonatal-surgeon whether or not any sedation is needed. “False information” is it, tossing out that babies feel pain in the womb because you do not want the guilt of a ‘painful’ murder when you abort them. Well, now, I am amazed. Oh, yes, many of you are anti-war and anti-death penalty, but you are perfectly OK with murdering babies when the babies are ‘inconvenient’ because you could not keep your legs crossed or your fly zipped. Listen SEX is NOT a recreational sport as today’s media and TV shows portray – it has consequences. Grow up and pay your dues or at least put your ‘mistake’ up for adoption.
Rape you say? Is that the baby’s fault, too? Rape happens sometimes because you make bad choices in the people you date, places you visit alone or the crowd with which you choose to ‘hang with.’ Regardless, if we begin again teaching our children how to behave and dress, the symptom of ‘unwanted’ pregnancies would go down a lot I would wager. It is not the baby’s fault they have useless and irresponsible parents.
let the ultrasounds be shown, just not at my cost
or, the abortion can happen but, not on my tax $dollars
momma, get your play partner and you ready to pay for it
Yes, we women are smart so we should be willing to learn all the consequences of medical procedures. If I were having heart surgery I would want all the ramifications explained to me. What are the risks, beneficial outcomes, best and worst case scenarios and long term physical and emotional possibilities? Step up women and take responsibility for your actions or be smart enough to take reliable birth control in the first place.

We can either have obtrusive government or obtrusive irresponsibility run its course. I heard a report a while ago that in the last 35 years some 5 million babies have been aborted.
The catch, 90% of those were paid by tax payers costing another estimated $1.4 trillion. Therefore, if women demand their right to abort, I demand my right not to pay for it.
Now, you’re educated just as I’m educated
